Hi all, life for me is pretty good at the moment, cant complain about a thing. Trouble is with my anxiety and racing thoughts. I am phasing out my citalopram down to 10mg now which I take very infrequently now. Came off it because I had been on it for about 8 months and started to feel very little effect from them anymore. My anxiety is quite bad recently, the thoughts go racing round my head to the point where I just want to scream 'stop' and it is really impacting on my life and making simple things very difficult.

I was wondering if anyone knows of anything good that can be taken to help quieten my mind and generally help me relax and feel calmer. As it is I feel like a coiled spring and am getting really sick of the feelings.

I am interested in suggestions of medication or even over the counter remedies.

I want to see my doc soon to see what they suggest but wanted to see what people think here first.

Cheers!

Hey there Awaken,

For what its worth, I'd been taken Citalopram for about 5 years and it finally stopped working for me. My doc switched me to Effexor XR 75mg about 4 weeks ago. This stuff can take from between 2 weeks to a month to really kick in so you might have to be a bit patient. So far its making me feel better. Bottom line, all these meds have a different effect on all of us so we just have to experiment sometimes. Hope this helps.

I also took Citalopram for 4 years and found the same thing - it just lost it's effectiveness. I was up to 40 mg and dropped to 20 until the psychologist took me off it. I agree that it is hit and miss since i've been on Prozac, Wellbutrin, Citalopram and Rem-something ( I forget the name) that made me so sleepy, I missed 3 days of work since I could barely keep my eyes open. I'm doing OK Wellbutrin right now but who knows if it will keep being effective. Hope it works out for you!
