I appreciate the sentiment of this email however, I would question whether or not most of these people really have suffered from OCD. The term is thrown around pretty often these days. For example, I could see Jessica Alba saying "I'm so OCD about working out". Now, perhaps she does have full blown OCD, but my point is, there is a huge distinction from people who have to check a lock 10 times before leaving a house , or, say, only using their right leg and always exhaling when stepping over a crack in the pavement or line in a floor (my personal worst ritual when my sickness was at it's worst), and being a little obsessive about something.

The only reason I bring this up is because it can minimize how devastating this sickness can be. Someone who may be a little germ-o-phobic is a far cry from someone who can barely get through the day because of repeated, dehabilitating, socially-unaccepted rituals.

Nikki Graeme from UK Big Brother 7 suffers from extreme OCD. She would only drink bottled water and wouldn't use anything someone else had touched as it was 'germ ridden'. I felt so sorry for her in there, the nation was laughing at her tantrums but really, she was suffering from a mental illness. It developed after years of anorexia, but I think she is doing a lot better now.

Oh but come on Shiz, she put a load of it on.

We must bump the big brother thread by the way!

I agree completely with Abe. As someone who has seriously suffered from OCD I find it really annoying the way the term is bandied about these days.
OCD is many faceted, it's not all about hand washing or arranging things but I think the common perception is a bit incomplete. So David Beckham likes his coke cans a certain way but I wonder if he really does have OCD?

OCD for me is when it effects you really badly in your daily life. I'm not putting down people by claiming they don't have OCD, but there's a big difference between someone who spends 30 minutes checking locks and doors and those who feel a bit uncomfortable about placement of tin cans.

I don't believe they have OCD because I've had terrible OCD for 19 years and there's no way I could be a celebrity. It ruins my life and usually grabs onto addictive things and never lets go. To be a celebrity I'd have to try to act normal too much and it would drive me crazy!
