I first took Aurorix ( Moclobemide), Reversible Inhibitor of Mono Amines type A, in early 1990's, and noticed a good effect in terms of well-being, concentrations and sleep.
The first week I took it, it gave me feeling unrest, insomnia, headache, but after a couple of weeks on it, I noticed an improvement ( the Psychiatrist upped the dose to 300mg in the morning after food, and 150mg around 2pm after food, it has a reason why it should be taken after food, as the tyramine in food requires the Amines to oxidise it, thus consuming moclobemide after food, especially with some amount of fatty acids in the food, it would less likely cause an increase of the amount of tyramine in the body system, then the hypertensive effect would even be lessened ). Furthermore, Aurorix has a short half-life, 2 hours, but to restore the Mono Amines completely it takes about 24 hours.
Then years later, came the generic forms of Moclobemide, here in Australia, there are about 3 of them. When I switched to the generic form, one after the other, I got different effect from them. ( It may be psychological effect, or maybe the binding agents and other innert substances in the generic forms, i don't know.....)
I just felt, it worked a bit different to me. Maybe anyone ever experience the same feeling? ( ...with all generic forms of different medications ?)
All I know, everyone's body metabolism is different to one another. This is just my experience from using different generics...with every medication i tried.
I've been on moclobemide 600 mg (usually combined with 900mg of lithium, but I'm pregnant, so off lithium) for around 2 yrs. Well, the dose has gradually been titrated up since starting. I've had no problems at all with generics. From what I understand (a few pharmacists and Dr's have reassured me of this) there are strict laws here that prohibit any variation in generics from the original patented drug.
Also, I take it all at night because I found I was foggy headed taking it during the day (seems to be the same with nearly everything I take). I cannot tolerate a muzzy head, so night time it is. Even with the short half-life, I've found that moclobemide (albeit augmented with lithium) to be the best medication in lifting my treatment-resistant depression.
Ps./ I'm going in to have my baby today, so I may not be able to respond for awhile.
