Hello everyone,
I just recently saw my psychiatrist, and he prescribed atavan (I don't know if I'm spelling this correctly) for me. I don't know what it is at all. Zoloft has worked well for me. But, just the thought of starting something new makes me a little bit worried. Anyone have any experiences they can share with me about Atavan?
Thanks.

Hey guys,
This week will be my first Ativan week. I"ll let you know how it goes. Still have no clue what to expect.
Take care.

My Voice,

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread sooner! I can tell you that I have used ativan with both paxil and prozac, which are SSRIs quite similar to zoloft.

Ativan is not an antidepressant so you don't need to worry about any changes in that area. It is great that the zoloft works well for you - ativan should not affect that. Ativan is meant to help calm you, sort of a mild tranquilizer. I find that it works great, especially before bed. I tend to have sort of motor-driven thoughts when I try to sleep, no matter how tired I am. The ativan seems to calm and relax me just enough that I can usually fall off to sleep within a half hour.

I occasionally take one ativan when I am anxious during awake times as well, although (thank you, God) I haven't had trouble with that lately.

My ativan is .5 mg. As I said, I may occasionally take one tab for daytime anxiety, and I routinely (per pdoc's orders) take 2 tabs each bedtime. It works very, very well for me, and seems to cause no problems at all with my antidepressants.

Good luck; let us know how this is working for you. In case you find that it does not do the job for anxiety (is that why your pdoc prescribed it?), don't be discouraged. There are lots of alternative meds to help you relax. Anything such as ativan, klonopin, etc. should not be a problem if you are taking a pretty low dose.

I have taken Ativan and Zoloft together. I did not find any negative drug interaction. The Ativan helped me get to sleep more easily and the Zoloft just worked to alleviate the depression.
Best,
SJW

Thank you Ados and SJW for your replies. I was extremely anxious last night, and really should have taken the Ativan, but found myself scared to. (the unknown, I guess) Thank you for your posts. Not as nervous anymore. I will give it a try as I need to, this week.
Thanks, again.
