I just started taking Fluoxetine yesterday after hiding from the doctors for over a year.

I am Irish so I was an alcoholic at birth, and could not resist drinking straight after I had taken the my first capsule. It definitely gave me an immediate drowsy feeling. I am hoping this will be a good excuse to really try and stop drinking so severely but I am just terrified to be sober.

it baffles me when people say 'alcohol is a depressant'. if so how can so many people enjoy drinking

When you hear about alcohol being a depressant it isn't referring to it depressing your mood. What it means is that alcohol depresses your central nervous system -- aka your brain. It dulls the brains abilities to function, hence loss of balance and slurred speech that occurs when people become really drunk, among other things. Just thought I would let you know!
