Some links and a book suggestion for parents of
kids with Bipolar Disorder, from Oracoker 16 -- thanks, Katie!
http://www.bpkids.org http://www.bipolarchild.comhttp://www.bpchildresearch.orgI would also reccomend the book "The Bipolar Child" by Demitri and Janice Papolos. It is a really great resource. I wish my parents had read this book when I was first diagnosed. It really explains bipolar disorder in children and notes how it differs from adult manifestation. There is advice on medications with specific emphasis on use in children. Finally, they do a really good job on how to communicate with school officials to establish an individualized education plan (IEP) which serves the child's educational, social, and emotional needs.
