I am new here, I have been taking Cymbalta for 2 years and lately have been feeling like I am falling into the pit again so my doctor added WB to the mix. I am starting on 150 for a week then will move to 300. I started feeling better soon after I took the first dose, had so much more energy, the sadness was controllable--I pray this reaction to the WB continues.

Another interesting s/e of WB, when I am depressed or agitated I self medicate with alcohol...and since I started the WB the cravings for alcohol have totally subsided! I am so happy about that. I feel like I am in control, not my depression.

Thanks for letting me share.

Well I'm a newbie myself.

However I'd like to refer you to a very good post by burgy on the honeymoon effect of WB. So you may not get too surprised and disappointed when things start changing a bit.

At least it's a very good sign you respond to it yay.gif
When you say it helps you not to drink alcohol, does it stop the craving or is it that alcohol does not taste so good anymore?
Like the cigarettes they don't taste good, but there's still craving.
Do I make sense?

I wish you all the best with the WB!

Hello, I too am new. I started taking Wellbutrin 150mg for almost 4 weeks. I too am happy with the results. I feel more energetic. It has helped with my depression and lack of enthusiasm . I have tried Lexapro for a year Pristiq and Effexor for several months. It did not make me feel like I had any motivation. I was also using alcohol to self medicate. It has been a struggle to not drink wine and beer . I have not had a drink in almost 1 month. I don't want to risk mixing it with wellbutrin . I don't want to get depressed again. I work full time at a hospital and am married.

Welcome, newbies!

It sounds like you're on the right track m3grl!

I've been taking 300mg of WellbutrinXL for about five years and I have been very pleased with the results. Until Wellbutrin I had a crying jag every day...now, I have more energy, focus and I'm able to function in my work place.

From what I've read it's not a good idea to mix alcohol and any anti-depressants. I suggest checking in with your doc if you think you have a problem with alcohol.

Take care & hugs,
Aerial

Thanks for the welcome Aerial. I forgot to mention that the alcohol drinking is also a big part of the social scene for me. The wellbutrin has taken the edge off . I hope this medicine will continue to work for me.
P.S this forum has been very helpful to me.

That is exactly how I feel, the WB has taken the edge off, my body is no longer screaming for a drink---I feel more in control and can hold off.

I agree, this forum has been very helpful.

Thanks for the welcome, aramis! I read the post on the honeymoon effects of WB, I really hope how I feel on the WB doesnt change that much, as I feel so much better since I started taking it. You asked the question about alcohol...the alcohol still tastes good, but the craving for it is so diminished. I want to quit alcohol altogether while on my meds and I feel the WB will help that.

Seems we have a lot in common! I asked to be put on Welbutrin after seeing my son-in law become smoke-free in a few weeks! I have been on Prozac for about 10 years, and it worked on my depression, but it made me unable to real a climax in any way! wub.gif So, after some research, I found out that this drug can help that problem as well.. So, I have been on it for about 2 weeks now. I am in total shock and amazement with this drug. I used to drink a few beers almost every afternoon, living here in sunny Florida, smoking and drinking on my free time.. Within ONE week of being on 300mg ( 150 two times a day), I am smoking maybe 2 cigs a day, sometimes three. And, in the past two weeks,. I had NO craving for alcohol at all... I am finding it very strange that this has happened...I am like a totally different person! I do have side effects of feeling nervous and jittery, so i do take alprazolam with my afternoon dose, and also to sleep. And Trying, let me tell you about the DREAMING! Talking out loud all night ( my poor husband)..waking up all hours.. wwww.gif
But after reading that this is a very common occurrence, I feel very optimistic that this drug will be the one for me.
I hope it works for you too!
