Carolyn Hax once said in her advice column that a good blues-buster is to do something you've always wanted to do. Under this rationale I've learned to ride horses, had a threesome (not with horses!), gotten my nose pierced, learned to make candles, tried absinthe, and written a novel.

Short of the tattoo I'm going to get soon which I've bene planning for a while, I'm almost running out of things I've always wanted to do that don't involve lots of money or Johnny Depp.

So, how about you? What are things you've always wanted to do but haven't done? Extra points for doing it and telling about it, so long as it's safe.

Good topic, kitten, although I think any further discussion of the threesome part is out of line for DF's PG-rated forum!!!

I admire you for writing a novel. That is the first thing that came to mind when I considered your question. I've started a bit, but unlike you I've not come close to finishing it.

I'm doing it right now! I have always wanted to restore a classic car. After practicing some techniques on a 84 Dodge truck, I felt I was ready. I'm halfway thru restoring a 1976 MG Midget which my European friends will recognize. See pix on my site at

In the last two years i've taken up scuba diving, learnt to fly light aircraft (ran out of money just after my first solo), and backpacked through SE Asia. Sometimes I can hardly believe that I did these things, but i'm so glad that I pushed myself to have a go. Next up - start a rock band.

I would also LOVE to restore a classic car and write a novel.

Cool thread, it's nice to see the flip-side.

The one thing I have always wanted to do is learn how to play the piano. I haven't got anywhere near to it yet .. but some day I will.

I would also Love to be able write a novel too ... A bit of a mix of fact anf fiction. Based around my life experiences with a bit of a twist.

I keep rewriting the first line to mine. So far that's as far as I've gotten on my novel. I wanted to become a doctor but settled on being a lab technician after getting pregnant in HS and deciding to keep my son. I've always wanted go to Fiji. Crystal clear water. Sandy beaches. Civilation a zillion miles away. Ok not really a zillion but close. But with 5 kids and college cost that is out of the question. I have always wanted to really paint. My art teachers always said I had talent that just needed some training.
I did however learn to play guitar and actually got good enough and brave enough to play in front of people. I have visited London and got left behind at the Tower of London by the tour bus. I was standing in line at the souviner shop and the person doing the head count was wrong. I walked from there to St. Pauls to catch back up to them. I've gone deep sea fishing off Cape Hattaras and caught the biggest fish of the day. Mahi Mahi. Yum. In fact I have fished all along the eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida and points in between. I once was out of work so I took a job where I learned to drive a forklift. Anyone need a lift?

I'm glad you mentioned that because there are some things that I want to do to make my life more progressive. I want to learn how to drive a car. My mother totally refuses to teach me ever since I was 15 and now I'M 25. She has stuck by her word. I would like to live in my own town home for just ME AND MY SON. Hopefully, I would like to get married. So please pray that it will happen to me.
I would like to teach music. I'm going to school in the summer to get my associate degree so that is a good start.

Thanks for the tip.

I have always wanted to skydive, get chin peroced, and learn how to do fire tricks

--------------------
So tired of fighting this feeling
My mind just spinning and reeling
I hate these pills i have to take
Makes me feel my life is just a fake

What can i do, where can i go?
Stumbling around, to and from
Wondering when this will end
Isn't there and angel he can send?

>Sell an artpiece or at least win a prize contest with one.
>Start/Finish an animated horror short of at least 5-10 minutes by myself (not counting the upcoming horror parody I'll be doing based on the Thing).

Bound to never happen and just wishful thinking:

Wholeheartedly recommend skydiving and fire tricks.
I went and did both.
4 years later I hold the highest license the USPA issues, the coveted D license, and am an experienced wingsuit pilot. Its becoming a career, something I thought impossible. 453 jumps later am utterly addicted to flying wingsuit down big puffy clouds, probably the only reason I never attempted the big mistake, you know?
What you don't know is that skydiving is an entire hidden subculture with a very strong family/tribe undercurrent. Skydivers will do anything to help each other and theres nothing quite like crouching in the door at 14,500 feet scared to death, about to do your first solo with 22 other people in the plane all cheering you on. The sense of being surrounded by the most supportive friends imaginable is beyond description. Go learn to skydive and join the family and enjoy getting pied by a dozen friends when you achieve your first license, your first hundred jumps, etc....
Go.

I've always wanted to become a social worker. I wanted to convert my sad formative years into a conversion of favorable accomplishments. I thought that doing so would not only help those who are where I've been, but it would educate me along the way as to dealing with my own state of depression. Helping others is ussually therapeutic for oneself. I just hope I can get the help I need inorder to fulfill that desire.

This is just what I have been looking for! Recovery focused. My things yet undone are a trip to Tuscany, Sell my art jewelry in some botiques, learn to make glass beads, and get published. I'm working on all of them! Thanks for this forum! Coopclapping.gif
