Has anyone had experience with moving to lexapro after being on celexa for a long time (in my case, about 7 years)? I feel like celexa has pooped out on me. I know they are very similar. I have depression and GAD.

My understanding is many meds aren't as effective after you've been on them a long time. Don't know about Celexa but I've switched from Paxil to Lex and it worked well for me.

I'm also looking for information but I'm planning on switching from Lexapro 20mg to Celexa. I think that the Lexapro has pooped out for me and I would like to try Celexa to see if it will work. (It's a $4 generic verses full price for the Lexapro AHHH!!!) I also have depression and GAD they have both gotten alot worse lately, I'm ready for a med change. I've been on Lexapro since 2004 and it worked well, I had to increase the dose after 2 years.

Does anyone have any imput or advice??? taz.gif

I asked my pdoc about the difference between Celexa and Lexapro since he prescribed me Celexa and not Lexapro. He said they were the same active ingredient just other things changed slightly in Lexapro so the drug company could create another patent.

Here in the UK, its difficult to get a non-generic branded drug prescribed anywa (due to government prescribing guidelines) so thats probably why I've got generic celexa (citalopram) rather than Lexapro (no generic available).

I did this switch too after a 10 year poop out on Celexa. The start-up side effects were very similiar and so is the overall outcome. I'm on week 4 of Lex and just upped to 15. Starting to feel like a human again!!
