Hello all,
I am going to the doctor today to request to be put back on Prozac. I was taking it for a while before, and it worked great for my depression. Now I would be taking it for my depression and OCD. The depression has come back, and it takes me half an hour at night just to get into bed, because of all the stupid rituals I have to do. Prozac seemed to work pretty well for my depression, but I don't know how well it works for OCD. Any opinions? Any other medications that might work better? I can't take Effexor, Paxil, or amitriptyline because they make me constipated. Thanks for any input.

Thanks for the input Isabeau!
Yes, I did go to my doctor yesterday, and he started me on 20mg/day of Prozac for 5-7 days, then up it to 40mg/day. I took my first 20mg this morning. I was absolutely fine with this, as this is what I wanted, as Prozac used to work soooo well for me. I don't actually remember having OCD back then like I do today. Its weird too, as I only have it at certain times every day, but those times of day I have it every day. For example, I don't have any compulsions at work, but wow, when its time for me to go to bed, it takes me at least ten minutes to get all that stuff out of the way.
Hopefully the Prozac helps. I remember that everything else used to make me constipated, and I don't know what I'd do if the Prozac did the same. Hopefully I'll never find out. I will update you on what happens, and thanks for caring!!!

I am now on my third day of taking Prozac. I can't tell if its a total placebo effect, but it seems like I am feeling better already. Not as far as the OCD, goes, but I wait until its been two months before judging its real effects. It was great though, as I went home from work yesterday, played with my kids, laughed with my wife, and wasn't irritable! I usually hear crying, or arguing, or any number of other things and I get angry. Mostly just angry inside, as I don't usually show it, but angry nonetheless. None of that yesterday. I hope that this is not just the "initial effect" I read about people having. I sure hope this is a small start of things to come. Nevertheless, I am optimistic at this point.

Your Welcome happy days 08
Sounds like you had a good day and its only early days, thats great to read!!!!
Its been a while since I have been on Prozac but at that time now that I remember, I didnt acknowledge that OCD was a problem.........I was too lost in it, it felt normally, like nothing was wrong.
I find my starts when I have empty space in my day, before work, after work, before bed, laying in bed, it gets bad sometimes, but therapy has been helping me alot and it hasnt been that bad lately, which is good. I actually thought I had no hope in getting help with my OCD but with the medication and therapy I finding that they both seem to help the compulsions.
I hope it continues to go well for you and will be good to know if it helps with your OCD too, HUGS Isabeau

Thanks Isabeau!
I think part of the reason that is been going well as that I want it to work, and so my mind is telling me that it is working. Who knows though, I could be wrong. I won't really know until I have been on it for about 6 weeks though.
As for my OCD, I really hope that Prozac does the trick. It isn't as important to me to fix as the other issues, as for me the OCD is more of a waste of time. I feel that I have better things to do with my life than sit in front of the stove for five minutes checking every knob to make sure that it is off. I am bumping the Prozac up to 40mg a day on Monday (per my GPs instructions), so by the time I see my GP again, I will have been on 40mg for about 5 weeks, so I figure any changes that will take place should have done so by then. I am very optimistic going forward though. I do hear about all these different meds and types of meds and worry if this is the one for me, but only time will tell I suppose. Thanks for your responses, it feels good to talk about my concerns to someone who has / is going through the same stuff I am.
