The treatment of mental disorders is a personal trial and error process. Just because one person has severe headaches when they use Zoloft doesn't necessarily mean that if you take Zoloft YOU will have headaches too. Conversely, the fact that Paxil didn't work at all for one member does not mean that Paxil cannot be your success story.
Your wonder drug or combination of, will be discovered totally independent of what may or may not work for another individual. If one drug was the answer for everyone, then there would be only one drug on the market. We all react differently to different medications and varying dosages.
It may satisfy your curiosity to learn about other people's experiences, BUT this should never be the deciding factor as to what will work best for you. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.

Quick backgroundf

Effexor for ~5 years, feel like there may be something better out there, begin a year long cycle of trying many different meds. Come to realize much of my depression may be related lack of motivation at my work associated with low energy. Started a regime of antidepressant stimulants, concerta, provigil, Vyvanse etc. Vyvanse was too powerful, Concerta was effective but didn't help the depression. Gave up and insisted on being put back on Effexor since overall it had worked the best for me, coupled it with Welbutrin based on info from this forum, seemed like the magic bullet for me. My depression disappeared entirely and I became much more positive but the lethargy was completely unmanageable. I took some leftover Concerta and nothing, I took left over Vyvanse and nothing, I told my Dr and he prescribed straight generic amphetamine, 10 mg 3xday. Taking the amphetamine did nothing, taking 2 amphetamine together did nothing.

At this point I'm thinking I'm broken, this is not normal, I have always responded very well to amphetamines, legal and otherwise. As the Welbutrin got equilibrated in my system, the lethargy lifted but I still lacked focus and interest in my work, which is bad because I just started at a new company last month, I really needed to be on top of my game.

Today, I drink a bunch of coffee because I'm feeling tired this am (due to lack of sleep the last few days), like clockwork, at 2 pm I'm crashing from the caffeine high. I figure what the heck, I'll take 3 of these amphetamine tablets. This time they behaved exactly like I would expect amphetamine to act, I had lots of energy, was talkative and very focused and efficient with my work. As of right now it has been 6 hours and I feel very good, a bit TOO energetic but very content, not consumed by anxiety as I experienced when the Vyvanse would wear off.

I'm thinking if I get the dose and timing right I can get the energy I need during the day, and the tiredness I need to sleep at night. Ditch the Welbutrin and just go to the Effexor and amphetamine, thinking that the amphetamine is cleaner/purer and more easily controlled dose wise.

So, now that it looks like I may try to make this part of my routine, does anyone have any feedback about what to expect? I'm noticing dry mouth, thirst and difficulty urinating. Still haven't experience the let down yet, which I expect to be abrupt, but I've never had any issues with a rapid drop after a high.

Experiences? Dangers of addiction?

I should mention, I'm a 39 year old white collar guy with a wife and 2 kids and no real issues, about as stable as it gets.

Amphetamines are very powerful drugs. If they are helping and you are taking as prescribed I dont see any problems. If you sense any tolerance or fell like you have to take more to get the same effect I'd contact your doc immediately.

Amphetamines are nice, but there are way too many side effects in the long run. You know what they are, is it worth being addicted to something deadly? I personally would take them every day if they were safe. They make me feel great lift my mood and allow me to be mentally sharp, but sometimes you get the bad mood swings and you'll snap on anyone. Good luck

I am currently staying in Sydney, Australia.

I heard a lot about meds like Adderall and ritalin being used in the States.
I am wondering why the psychiatrists here in Australia would not even prescribe those meds, even for ADHD or depression. Is it too addictive?

If taken for ADHD, stimulants are not addictive. If they're used for organic brain syndrome, I guess it's possible, but very unlikely. I take them for that, and I really can't imagine from my own experience why anyone would ever want to take more than the recommended dose, or why people would get addicted-- but that means that for me, they do not have that effect. But if they're used just for depression... well, I can see how they might be. Put it this way-- if you take them and you DO see exactly why people would get addicted to them, then you probably shouldn't be taking them. If you take them and want more, well, same thing.

This is SO unfair. I suffer from real lethargy which effects my wholelife, Im in bed at 7pm and I still fgeel tired during daytime. I have thought for sometime an amphetamine would be ideal but I understood that no pysch over here would prescribe one for me, so i suffer this tired groggy existence. I have turned down anti-depressants which make me morre tired. I feel amphetamines would change my life. Where could I get them?
