I've been cruising pretty trouble free for the last few months after starting meds. (10 mg lex + 15 mg mitrazipine). I've been feeling good. However, I had some job stress for the last two days and today I have been feeling slightly depressed. I'm not sure if this is the beginning of another depressive episode or a transient feeling. I'd like to know if it's normal to have ocassional, minor depressive episodes while on meds. or if it's unusual to have one and warrants a visit to the doc. If it's normal, do they like resolve on their own?

Rahul,

I know what you mean. I guess you're worried that its coming back. I know its easier said than done but try not to worry too much.

In all likelihood its just a temporary blip. I guess its normal to feel a bit stressed/depressed at times anyway (even for normal people!!!).

If it was me, I'd hang fire the doc for now and see what happens. If it lasts more than a few weeks then maybe then I'd consider it. Since the meds have been working well for you the chances are that they still are...

I'm not saying all meds work for ever but I dont think a day or two is long enough to give an indication.

BTW - how many mionths on these meds?

I would keep an eye on that depressed feeling. You probably know by now the difference in feeling sad for a good reason and feeling depressed. If it keeps up, check with your doc, dont let it get the better of you.

Well, I'm happy to report that I'm feeling better today. The feelings of depression for the last two days were transient. Since this was my first such experience, I suppose I can now state that once one has stabilized on a med, one may get depressed once in a while; only that the recovery will be much faster. This is good and strengthens my faith in the meds. It also weakens my determination to quit meds. at some point in future because this episode has proven to me that I am more vulnerable to depression than I had imagined. The theory that with every episode of depression, the likelihood of another episode increases and the time between episodes decreases, is beginning to sink in.

The feelings of depression for the last two days have again eaten my soul. I had forgotten about the accursed disease. Three months of depression-free existence had made me think that I was never depressed. How easily people forget. Thank you psychocandy and gentle sun for your replies.
