The AS level results (qualifications taken after attaining school grades but before university) in the UK are coming out on Thursday! Good luck to all those students and those parents of students here. I have a friend who is now trying her third attempt at the biology AS level, after getting an initial U and then a U on her retake. She's got high hopes for going to university and needs to achieve a G.

Lately she has been depressed, and told me that this was her last chance. She said that if she didn't pass she'd seriously consider killing herself. I might go to her house just before she receives the result. I really really really hope she passes, and I pray to God that she passes, but if she does fail, what should I say to comfort her?

Just being there to support her is going to be one of the best things I think you can do to help your friend. Just try and go with the flow of things. I think sometimes in situations like this the words just come to you at the time,

What an awesome friend you are. I think it is a great idea to go to her house when she receives her results, just being there, whether she passes or fails, will mean so much to her.
To her, it may seem like her life falling apart if she fails and the end of the world, but it could mean that her path is to be in another direction. New beginnings and actually without realizing it, her life could be just beginning.

She is lucky to have you.
