Ever notice that, for every 100 people that "know how you feel", there are usually less than 10 that can put enough aside and rejoice in your triumph?

That's no ones cross to bear. That's just life in a lifeboat, I suppose.

Gisele

That is an interesting thought. Would you like to elaborate on how you got to it?

I think that the people who can really rejoice in our triumphs are the ones who closely know how horrible and real our days of defeat have been. The number of people that know that depend on the type of person we are and how many people are around us to get to know these sensitive details about us. I think that as long as there is at least one person, its enough to keep us from going under completely. My heart really goes out to the people who don't have real support from anyone.

It wasn't a single thought but a large realisation that no-one is ever going to do what I need to do for myself.

"I know how you feel" just never means anything to me. I know they are words that some people like to hear but they just leave me numb...no added emotion, just a nothingness. I don't think it's real.

"I care how you feel" is like a miraculous opposite. I also comes from much fewer people, the ones with a love to say it and mean it. Just as it should be. And I think I would risk never hearing that again if I didn't strive from within myself, for myself.

So, if I had a wish for the world, it would be for everyone to have someone says to them "I care how you feel."

To be fair, next time my boyfriend says "I love you", I might reply "I know how you feel." Just for the sake of irony ;)

Hi Gisele,

It really is amazing how just a few simple words that come from the heart can mean so much. Sometimes people say things and they never really understand how much they impact us.

I just got off the phone with my grandmother. She worried about me having the panic attack today. We were just talking about each others day. I told her I was feeling a lot beter than I had been.

Instead of saying "That's good to hear." or "I'm so glad to hear that." She said "Your granpaw would be very proud of you for that."

Given that he was one of the most important people in the world to me, what she said honestly brought tears to my eyes. It has been a long time since I was able to cry cause I was happy.

So yeah, just a few word from the heart can make all the difference.
