I was talking to a guy who is on medication, he told me when he goes off it he goes really low, so then he needs to go back on it again.

He also mentioned that goes much lower once he is off his medication then before he started the medication.

Anybody else find this.

My med (Zoloft) was a godsend. I am thankful for it everyday. I cannot even express how nuch better I am. I have not gone off and at this point I dont plan on it.

The meds have made an enormous difference in my life, but they're not without their side effects. I periodically have to shift my combo, because I've yet to find anything that has worked for more than 6-12 months.

As far as things being worse afterwards, there can be withdrawal effects that are psychological in nature. It seems more likely to me that things just seem worse because they were better on the meds. Thinking back, I'm less tolerant of depressive episodes after being on meds, because now I know I don't HAVE to be depressed.

For a few weeks, yes. After that, no, it's more like I'm exactly the way I was before I went on them, which is discouraging, but not worse.

I am pretty sure the studies that have been done on this show similar things, that is, the meds don't create a dependency except for the period it takes to withdraw, usually a few weeks. (I am talking about SSRI's, for reference.)

The last time I went off them for 6 weeks I was somewhat better than I used to be before I started them. My extreme social awkwardness and obsessiveness was down a lot. Good to know. boredsmiley.gif

The times I have not been on medication, I would say I have felt lower then before I started them, but at the start of not being on medication and felt of top of the world only to hit rock bottom.

Medication is helping me so much now.................I cant believe the huge difference the right combination of medication is having on my life.

I can't believe the positive effect that medication has had on my quality of life. I am taking Prozac for depression, OCD, and tension headaches, and it is amazing. I had almost forgot how it felt to feel normal. I have no plans to stop the medication, as the last time I did things ended up the way they were before.
