I am one week into getting off Zoloft and UGH.... I knew going into it that this would be hard, but I sure could use someone to talk to about this that understands. If you have been through it or are going through withdrawal symptoms, please let me know. Thanks!!!

welcomeani.gif julesellen to DF,

I hope that you have consulted with your doctor and are taking the appropriate steps to stop talking this medication.

Have a look around the Zoloft Fourm and I am sure there will be people who have been through similiar situations,

Hope to see you around the boards,
HUGS

Thanks for the couple of people who responded. I actually DID go cold turkey... and here's why: I researched for weeks on the pros/cons of weaning vs. cold turkey. Regardless of how patients did it, they all experienced the same exact symptoms. The only difference was a little w/d at a time over a longer period, or all at once. Basically, I chose not to prolong the horrible and the inevitable! I had a great support system while doing it and made sure ask them to contact my doctor for anything drastic that might occur.
Result??? I feel 100 times better than I did a week ago! I feel like ME again! Still having brain zaps, but otherwise, wonderful.
I am the first person to say that depression is a very real thing and that I encourage any and all to do what needs to be done. However.... I have learned the hard, long way that there are natural supplements (like amino acids) that do the same thing as antidepressants, but with little to no side effects. No weight gain, no mood swings, no sexual side effects and certainly not the unimaginable hell of side effects and withdrawal that myself and hundreds of thousands of others have had to deal with. And for anxiety or stress? AMAZING what taking a simple recommended dosage of Primrose Oil can do!!! Holy cow! WHY didn't my doctor recommend this first???
It is with great sadness that "help" for depression comes with so many negative attributes in pharmacuticals... isn't the BAD what people are trying to rid themselves of in the first place????
I am not one to preach, but I wish I could climb onto a mountain and tell these precious people that there are answers out there BESIDES antidepressants that are so much easier, less expensive, no side effects and every bit as effective! Will I? Absolutely not. Why? Becuase I don't want the loads of yelling and complaints I would hear from people if I did.....
NO... I am not a doctor... but here is a question that EVERY patient should ask themselves: "Did my doctor sit me down and tell me this may not work? Did they tell me that there could be some dreadful side effects? Did he or she say, Listen, if you ever want to get off this med, you are going to wish like hell you had NEVER started it?" NOPE. And I am willing to bet that your doctor didn't either.
Wishing all who dwell here well and good luck. God bless...

I agree with some of what you say. And I do think that people should be open to all forms of "meds". But I do think that they should inform themselves and be prepared when the Dr. says, "well you should try this.", maybe then say, "well I have heard of this and it seems to have less side effects." Or whatever the idea behind it. Then you have some of your own input. Then you will make a decision with you Dr. not you Dr. making it for you.
