A million places to start
I try to think about what to post and my brain chases a million rabbits. If I don't trudge through I will over edit this post to oblivion.

I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 12 and given Ritalin. It worked like a charm until I started falling asleep in class. Ritalin doesn't make you drowsy! Well it doesn't, not unless someone messes up the paperwork and has you taking it at 7pm. (Sigh) Thought lost...

Hi and Welcome to DF puddleofsunshine.

Are you still on ritalin, or are you on something else now?
I am glad that you were able to post, even though the thought became lost along the way.
I hope you will come back and post some more.

Hi puddleofsunshine and welcome again to DF. Ritalin SHOULD give you energy and help you stay alert, I don't know or cannot fathom why it would put you asleep. Are you taking any other psych meds that may be contributing to your fatigue? I take Ritalin too and it always wakes me up and helps me focus on what I'm doing. So glad you're here and posting and that you didn't edit yourself off the page!!! Lol. Take care and keep posting and letting us know more about you. darkshadow.

Hi and welcome!

I lose track of what I want to say....and over edit. Most of my posts take a lot longer for me to write that I think it would take most people.

I've been taking Ritalin for about a year now, and I seem to have kind of a paradoxical reaction to it if I take too much. (I found this out while titrating up as directed by my PsyNP.) It doesn't exactly make me sleepy, it just calms down the interior chaos- I am less distracted by the rabbits..Lol, that was such a good description! I learned a long time ago that sleeping aids cause me to be wide awake. I can easily sleep on the dose of Ritalin I take if I want to.

sorry it took so long to get back.
No, I have been off of Ritalin for about 15 to 16 years now. There was a point in my life where Ritalin wasn't helping and I moved from New York to Colorado, and the schools there didn't have the "special" education classes. When I would get bored and my mind wandered, nobody would check to make sure I was mentally still there. I was about to fail the grade when my parents sent me to a diploma mill of a high school, after that I went to a vo- tech and managed to get a degree in welding for a bit more legitimacy in my education. Aside from that I stayed away from anyone with connections to the mental health community .
