Are you people in your local area support groups? If so, how are they? I've been looking for something like this around me (I'm in New York City). I found "Please pm member for link" . Has anyone ever tried that or know of something similar? Thanks.

Hiya,
I have had no personal experience with support groups but have heard many people say they are really beneficial and helpful.
Maybe you could go along to see what it will be like.

Take care

I actually do not know of any in my area (I admit that I have not looked very hard either, though). I have heard from some that they really find it helpful, but unfortunately, I have only been on online support groups like this. I'm assuming if you find a group with people that are willing to open up and try to help you with your problems, that it will help.
Good luck in finding a local area support group that works for you. NYC has so much to offer that hopefully you'll find something pretty quickly. :)

I have never tried a support group. I can't really open up face to face, so for me online where it is more anonymous is easier for me.

There are real life depression support groups in many cities. Check local hospitals, non-profit organizations, churches, your mental health or medical provider for information about groups meeting in your area. DF is an online support group. I'm sure there are other online groups as well.

I'm very anxious about going but I think I'll force myself to check it out soon.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know I went to a couple of meetings already and it was very positive both times. You don't have to talk if you don't want to and everyone seems nice. If anyone has any questions about it, feel free to send me a pm.
