My Dr. is recomending Prozac at a starting dose of just 5mg per day for the first few weeks and then moving up slowly.

I am ultra sensitive to medications and my doc said that Prozac in very small doses and then increased slowly in his experience, has worked for many who cannot tolerate other meds due to side effects.

I have tried Celexa, Ativan and Remeron. All 3 have raised my Prolactin levels and caused me pain in my breast area.

I am suffering from anxiety and am pretty much house bound at the moment. sadwalk.gif
Any experiences are appreciated.

- Thanks

G'day

I just started Prozac a little while ago. I had trouble coming off Lexapro, it pooped out on me after about 2 years, worked well when it did though. I started on 5mg for a few days then 10mg for a week then 20mg for the last 5 days. I am sensitive to SSRI's in that I suffer bad withdrawals but on the contrary they do work well for me. So far I feel more depressed and anxious but I am fairly sure that this does occur with Prozac and eventually it will turn it around. I also have a friend who is a GP who has 2 Psychiatrists as clients and they both take Prozac as their preferred SSRI because it is easeir to get off and tends not to have as bad side effects as some others.

However, in your case, I would suggest that if you were to start Prozac that weekly bloods to measure your prolactin levels should be undertaken. There perhaps is a connection between serotonin and prolactin levels.

Good luck

OMG, Eglonyl (sulpiride) did this to me! And with the raised prolactin came worsened depression - it was awful. Prozac didn't work for me, so can't comment on that, sorry, but I can sure relate about the prolactin.

I was taking Elavil, and some of the trycyclic antidepressants for a while, and they all made me constipated. Effexor and Wellbutrin did the same thing to me. Prozac and Zoloft were the only two that I could take and increase in small doses and still tolerate them. I hope that it works for you!

I have tried a few others (can't remember the names) but found that Prozac has worked the best for me. I am sensitive to medications and, thankfully, my doctor understands this and starts me off on a very small dose.
