Bupropion is not approved for depression in the UK, however it is approved for smoking cessation under the brand name Zyban. The active ingredient is exactly the same (bupropion hydrochloride) whether it's called Zyban, Wellbutrin, or generic bupropion. Many doctors in the UK have prescribed Zyban "off-label" to treat depression. I've been taking bupropion for a year and a half, and I think it's a wonderful antidepressant.
