with so few hospital beds for so many mental health patients, it seems that especially the low income/those without insurance are suffering the most when it comes to their mental health treatment.

i'm sure you heard in the news about the lady who died, waiting in the psych ward, while people stood by and watch her wither on the floor.

she was indigent and waiting for help. some people in that waiting room were waiting over 24 hours.

i believe that too. before i had health insurance, i had to go to a public hospital once. i waited 20 hours for care. i'm sure that in NY, where this happened, the situation is probably worse. at the hospital, they didn't let me have my meds, not even klonopin. they gave me a benedryl shot. how helpful!

i'm so sorry that the government and even private agencies don't focus on mental health the way they focus on, say, heart problems or breast cancer.

i'm sure my dad's suicide was preventable, as are most suicides. why doesn't anyone step up to cover this huge disparity in health care coverage? there is such stigma and discrimination against the mentally ill that it even reaches into our treatment, imo.
