Hi there,

I was hoping to be able to have some answers in this forum. I am suffering from Insomnia which is probably caused by anxiety and depression. I have been taking Remron (30mg) for two weeks, and before that, I was taking Remeron (15mg) for three months. The 15mg Remeron did not help the insomnia (the depression was still there) and in addition, it made me feel tired throughout the day. When I increased the dosage to 30mg, the sleep pattern has improved vastly, and it also felt like the depression went away. However, I would feel very tired especially in the afternoon to the degree that I could not function properly. My friends called me a zombie.

My family doctor said Remeron was not for me and changed the prescription to 150mg Wellbutrin XL to be taken once a day in the morning. Before I start taking it, I read online, that Wellbutrin can actually cause Insomnia, exactly the problem that I am battling with. The question is whether it is an appropiate decision to prescribe Wellbutrin to a patient that suffers from Insomnia?

I would really love to hear from you and to share experiences.

HG

the question is really if wellbutrin makes you have insomnia or not, not if others experience insomnia. i normally have an insomnia problem and used to take meds for it, however now i seem to be sleeping fine, and i take 300mg wellbutrin in the morning.

see how it turns out.

I'm taking 150 xl daily and have insomnia issues. They were mild the first couple of weeks, and I had ambien to help control it. At the moment, the sale/purchase of my homes has fallen through, my wife and kids are in our home 3 hours away, I'm crashing at a friends while I start my new job. The insomnia, coupled with the stress, coupled with sleeping on an air mattress, no ambien, means I'm getting ~ 4hrs sleep each night.

But I agree with the previous poster, depends on how it affects you. Try ambien to counter it if needed.

How many days into taking the drug it is possible to determine that it may the cause of the Insomnia? I usually have Insomnia even without taking the drug, but the drug may just worsen the insomnia.

Thank you

You insmonia may be related to life events rather than the drug. A word of encouragement is that you have a wife and kids and everything is going to work out at the end, so there no need to worry about. Things always fall into place eventually.

Insomnia was the reason I was diagnosed for depression! I tried Celexa (worked but did not like the sexual side effects) and Remeron (best sleep ever, but nasty mood swings) before ending up on Wellbutrin SR. I have been on zopiclone (sleeping tabs- non habit forming! Hah! who does not want the habit of sleeping every night?) for a couple of years now. May be on them forever. I have been on WB for about 3 years now.

Just my 2c.
