I have a 10 year old autistic son, really concerned over the past few months and his behaviours. I have recently seen a specialist mental health practictioner regarding his anxiety, rages and quick changes in mood that do not have any specific triggers. He has 2-3 rages a week that can lasts up to 3 hours nothing at all can calm him, no eye contact nothing just basically having to see it out. He has gotten so violent towards me. Someone just brushing past him depending on his mood can cause a major upset which even happened in school when another child moved his chair and knocked him accidentally he had a rage in school. Sometimes i really dont know how to approach him to get him to do anything as i dont want to deal with the rage. He has a very low mood, lost quite a bit of weight with eating less, doesnt enjoy activities or things he liked to do before cannot be bothered with anyone basically like he is depressed and just not happy. We go back to see child psychiatrist next week.

Thanks for listening,

Donna

Hi and Welcome to DF Donna

I'm sorry that have to go through this and your son as well. This must be so incredibly hard. I am glad that you are taking him back to the child pshyc.
Is he in a school for kids with special needs or autism? Sometimes this can help, when there are teachers around that can also understand where this is coming from and they may have loads of experience with this.
In the meantime until the doc appointment, we are here for you and keep strong.

Thank you for reply Trace! These times right now are particularly hard on my son and family. He does attend a specific asd school and they also see that their is a problem and their is no triggers and most of the time at home and school it could be just commenting on a lovely picture he has drew and he wouldnt want someone to look at it by elbowing or showing a behaviour and the same to me at home, he doesnt seem to like anyone in his personal space which is understandable but when trying to help something he is doing eg; homework he will need some input and for daily living skills as well. Referral was made to child and adolescent mental health.

I am glad that your family and him are getting help.
He may be feeling incredibly frustrated with himself and be trying to prove to himself that he can do everything by himself.
It may be hard to do, but have you tried to just let him try and do the things on his own, with no help, even if he can not get it right. Let him know you are there if he needs the help, he may eventually learn to want to ask for help.
It sounds as if he is so frustrated with himself.
