... but just maybe there are others?

It seems from what I've read that Cymbalta makes most people sleepy and the psydoc prescribed the 60mg I take, at night, but I find it gives me insomnia!! I moved it to morning and seemed to sleep better, but then I thought maybe I was just imagining it so last night I took it in the evening again - and had the worst night I've had in weeks. I just HAVE to experiment again tonight (it's the researcher in me!) with taking it at night, but if the insomnia is repeated, I'll switch back to mornings and let the psydoc know that I'm weird that way. smile.gif

Anyone else have this reaction?

I found that this med is too energizing for me to take it at night. The mid-day sleepiness it a side-effect and one can get through it by keeping busy, but some of us need to take a small nap, lol! Just remember to keep hydrated as this med is one that is time released and works best when you keep the fluid level up. I find that I have dry mouth with it, so there are water bottle wherever I am!

Thanks Jackie. So there are two :)
I took the Cymbalta in the evening again last night. Another night of waking up all the time, lying awake at times, gave up at 3am, and just laid and thought of stuff (too cold to get out of bed in the middle of the night these days!) got up at 4.
So today I took it in the morning. We'll see.

moonlightress,

I could not take it at night either, as it gave me terrible insomnia. I now take it in the morning and it's much better. You may have to give it some time though.

Sincerely,

Maddie

And now we are three :)
I slept slightly better last night, after taking it in the morning. Was awake from 2 to 3, woke up many times, but got to sleep again every time. So I will give it time, but I think I am now a morning-Cymbalta person.

I take mine in the morning with a cup of coffee and i'm good to go all day. At night I usually take a trazadone or small dosage of Klonopin to help me sleep throughout the whole night even if I feel I don't need it or I toss and turn.

My doc added Cymbalta to my Lexapro about 6 months ago and the combo seems to work well. I had a really rough time a few weeks ago and now also taking Depakote, but I believe that without the SNRI, I could have spiraled into a horrible depression again.

I do not drink as much coffee as I use too, but I think that is also due to some increase in anxiety during my episodes a few weeks ago. Who needs stimulants when you're anxious?? heh

Hi - new to this forum ... I have to take my Cymbalta (60mg) first thing in the am, or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. BUT I also seem to get really edgy & irritable if I combine the med with caffeine. I tried switching to decaf but felt so low I had to go back.

Anyone else experience problems with caffeine & this drug? Thx! whatsthat.gif

I think that might depend on what you are taking it for-Anxiety? If you are taking Cymbalta to control anxiety, I can see where caffeine might aggravate your anxiety and make you edgy.

Initially took it at night but switched to morning - lunch and stayed there. See my thread on central sleep apnea to see what I learned about how cymbalta affects your REM sleep. Even if you do sleep with it, you may not be sleeping WELL with it.

by the way, now that I'm weaning - at half dose, I'm staying very sleepy through the day but sleeping really hard at night. (still taking it in the morning)

Moonlightress,

Do you have someone that can monitor you during sleep, maybe in the couple of hours before time to wake to make sure you are not having apneas? Just a thought.

Hi Dars
Afraid not. My teenage daughters really need their own sleep. But I'm almost off Cymbalta now anyway, just taking 7.5mg now till the end of the week, then I'm done. Thanks!

Hi Dars,

I've had a sleep study performed with Cymbalta and my oxygen level was perfect, so no apnea here. My awakenings were caused by severe RLS/PLMD with over 300 movements in five hours. I'm now treating these conditions in addition to depression/anxiety. I never hit stages 3, 4 or beyond in this study, thus being labeled with "poor" sleep quality.
