QUOTE (mimimimi13 @ Jun 16 2008, 06:12 AM) my anxiety is soooooooooo bad! when i dont take anti depressants i dont have any anxiety but im really depressed when i take anti depressants i have anxiety but am not depressed the anxiety is killing me Lexapro was absolutely fantastic for me in terms of anxiety. I went through a few weeks of slight nausea, but it was worth it. Not only was my anxiety gone, but I found myself to be more outgoing and to say things I wouldn't normally say, and to interact with people I normally wouldn't interact with. Sadly my depression was still bad and my current meds prevented me from continuing Lexapro. Good luck.

Any benzo like Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax, or Valium is a good bet for anxiety. The strongest med for anxiety however is Nardil, but you need to have tried many drugs for years before ever getting that prescribed.

I take it everyday. 2 times a day. .5 mg at a time I have been taking 1 mg for years but recently I've been very anxious late afternoon. I'm afraid to ask the doctor to increase the dose. How can one ever get off of these meds. I also take Effexor and am unable to stop.

Maybe you could shift the time a little to cover the aternoon dip by taking your meds around noon ?

I've always found it difficult to get my GP and/or pdoc to prescribe me ANY sort of benzos no matter how bad I am. :-(

I think it depends on the Pdoc!

After trying over 40 medications! I have come to the conclusion that Adderall XR is the best med for depression AND anxiety AND ADD :) Nothing even comes close to Adderall's power heh.

If you feel you need something daily you should really go for clonazepam or diazepam as they are long lasting for anxiety.
I would advise against Ativan or Xanax for a regular anxiety medication - reason being, they are short acting benzo's so the effect will wear off rather quickly (3-6 hours depending on person) and if you have an anxiety disorder, you will likely get rebound anxiety which just makes things worse, as it is often worse then your baseline anxiety. People who use these benzo's daily often build up tolerance quickly and take them 3 times daily etc. They are great drugs for people who need them a few times per week but I would really caution anyone against them for chronic or daily anxiety, they will do you more harm then good in the long run.
Good Luck.
