The treatment of mental disorders is a personal trial and error process. Just because one person has severe headaches when they use Zoloft doesn't necessarily mean that if you take Zoloft YOU will have headaches too. Conversely, the fact that Paxil didn't work at all for one member does not mean that Paxil cannot be your success story.
Your wonder drug or combination of, will be discovered totally independent of what may or may not work for another individual. If one drug was the answer for everyone, then there would be only one drug on the market. We all react differently to different medications and varying dosages.
It may satisfy your curiosity to learn about other people's experiences, BUT this should never be the deciding factor as to what will work best for you. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.

I take Zoloft on a daily basis, and Xanax for just in case.

I am finding now that my depression is in some sort of control (Cross fingers) but the anxiety is really bad.

My doctor has put me on a short term anxiety medication to help me deal with this for the next few weeks and I suppose if that doesnt settle it down then I suppose she will be looking at something else.

Have you talked to your doctor about this? It might be good idea to do this if you havent already,

HUGS

Lexapro was absolutely fantastic for me in terms of anxiety. I went through a few weeks of slight nausea, but it was worth it. Not only was my anxiety gone, but I found myself to be more outgoing and to say things I wouldn't normally say, and to interact with people I normally wouldn't interact with. Sadly my depression was still bad and my current meds prevented me from continuing Lexapro. Good luck.

Any benzo like Klonopin, Ativan, Xanax, or Valium is a good bet for anxiety. The strongest med for anxiety however is Nardil, but you need to have tried many drugs for years before ever getting that prescribed.

I've tried Paxil and Lexapro, but Xanax is a Godsend for me. I'm on 1mg daily, and only have to augment with .5mg every 10 days or so as I sense an attack coming on.

I have been taking 1 mg for years but recently I've been very anxious late afternoon. I'm afraid to ask the doctor to increase the dose. How can one ever get off of these meds. I also take Effexor and am unable to stop.

What time of the day do you take your doses ? Maybe you could shift the time a little to cover the aternoon dip by taking your meds around noon ?

I've always found it difficult to get my GP and/or pdoc to prescribe me ANY sort of benzos no matter how bad I am. :-(

I take 225 mg. of Effexor in the morning now since I usually feel anxious and depressed. At night I take Xanax to go to sleep. I sometimes don't need the Xanax at night and try not to take it long periods of time. Xanax helps take away the panicky feeling but also makes me feel kind of weak. I take 2 tablets of .25 mgs. at night and have also taken them during the day if needed.

After trying over 40 medications! I have come to the conclusion that Adderall XR is the best med for depression AND anxiety AND ADD :) Nothing even comes close to Adderall's power heh.

If you feel you need something daily you should really go for clonazepam or diazepam as they are long lasting for anxiety.

I would advise against Ativan or Xanax for a regular anxiety medication - reason being, they are short acting benzo's so the effect will wear off rather quickly (3-6 hours depending on person) and if you have an anxiety disorder, you will likely get rebound anxiety which just makes things worse, as it is often worse then your baseline anxiety. People who use these benzo's daily often build up tolerance quickly and take them 3 times daily etc. They are great drugs for people who need them a few times per week but I would really caution anyone against them for chronic or daily anxiety, they will do you more harm then good in the long run.

Good Luck.
