The woman who prescribes my medication has been out of town for days and she is gone until Saturday. I also called her last Monday because I was getting low on my medication.

Now I am out, and I don't know what to do.

What happens when this happens to people? Do they just stop taking meds?

I'm nervous because I don't want to slip into a depression when I run out of hte Celexa (citalopram) tomorrow.

well i normally ask my doc in advance to make sure i have a supply, but if my doc was away then any other doc at that surgery can do u a repeat prescription, just ring up.

it normally takes a little while for the pills effect to wear off.

I did have a full supply, but I lost the scripts. I threw them away by total accident. I'm usually OCD about this sort of thing, too. I guess the medication actually works if I was careless enough to forget about them and toss them away. LOL. (trying to make myself laugh because i am panicking)

What do you mean "at that surgery" - do you mean at the office? She left a number of another doctor, maybe I should call them?

Hey

I'm not sure which part of the world you are in, but in England, Australia, New Zealand, Europe etc, practically everywhere except the US the "surgery" is a doctors office. I'm in the US but Australian so I understand both. Usually there is an emergency number your doctors office has on its answsering machine/service. That Dr should call you in at least 5 days worth of meds. Failing that, if you get your prescriptions filled at the same drugstore/chemist, sometimes they will give you a few days supply to tide you over until the beginning of the following week. I also don't know if there is a withdrawal from your meds, but with mine, effexor (terrible withdrawal within 18 hrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and wellbutrin (not a problem) I would be in really bad shape. Anyhow good luck and hang in there!!

Its not the returning depression you need to worry about, but possible withdrawal symptoms you could experience from suddenly stopping medication. There has to be someone at the dr's office to temporarily take their place or get in contact with her for such an occasion.

Yes, call that doctor. That doctor will be able to prescribe your medicine atleast enough until your doctor is back. I once had a similar issue with running out of meds when my doctor was gone, but I was able to get the prescription called in by the doctor who was covering for my doctor.

I don't see why any doctor can't just refill it. As long as it's the same office, your files will be there saying what meds you are on. I've even had several doctors from the same clinic refill my oxycontin prescription, and that's about as controlled a med as you can get.

I know here in the UK a pharmacist will give you an emergency reply if you can prove you do take the drug. Like if you;ve been there before to get your prescription.
