Guys lately I have lost alot of weight (I eat normal) and have been looking pale and not feeling good. Can this be the depression? Like my breathing acts up and my heart aches (litterally) and its like my chest hurts. I am even tired when I get 8 hours of sleep. Its been happening alot lately and alot lately my depression has been worse, like it gnaws at me more now out of no where. I am asking if it can affect your physical health because when I visited my best friend for a week, I looked the best I have ever looked in 6 years. I got tan again and my acne went away almost completely. I was getting 8 hours as sleep-as much as I do now. Its like I am decaying... how can this happen from depression? I even work out, not too much though because I even worked out when I went on vacation. Its like when I am happy life comes back to me. I am rarely happy (truly happy) though, maybe once a year. Is this from depression? If it is I don't know if I can fix it :(.

Hey DSL, I don't really have any real scientific evidence to give you, but I'll do my best. When I am down, I have alot of those same symptoms: shallowness of breath, tiredness, and tension in the chest/heart area. I think that depression does contribute to a lot of these symptoms.

As far as weight loss goes, you mentioned that you cut back on working out, how much have you cut back? I am a really scrawny guy myself that doesn't work out, so you should know more than I.

Another thing to consider is depression could be affecting your perception of yourself more than your actual physical self. You may just be having a bad day, and are judging yourself worse off than you actually are.

Try to do what makes you happy, if you have lost more weight than you would like, consider working out more again.

How are you judging the weight loss?

It sounds more like anxiety than depression.  Learn deep breathing techniques which will slow your heart rate, relax you and release tension.  Sing.  Whistle.  Shout.  All stress releasers!

I expect when you were with your friend you stopped worrying as much.  You stopped thinking about you and shared other things which took your mind forwards rather than dwelling.

I believe there is a strong mind/body connection, and what you're experiencing may well be physical signs of depression. Please talk to your doctor, and rule out any other problems that could be causing this.
I'm sorry you're having to deal with this, and I wish you well...

Depression can produce psychosomatic illnesses or in general a feeling of malaise. My depression generated actual bleeding ulcers,IBS, tired all the time for no reason, headaches and a few more. If something new started, I went to my doc to get checked out. I would recommend you do the same, just to be safe. If you are eating normally and not working out your unexplained weight loss should also be investigated. Don't discount how you are doing physically just because you are depressed.

I lost 10% of my body weight when I became depressed a couple of years ago, which is an indication of depression.  My blood pressure went up, and I was unable to relax or stay asleep.  Depression can be very hard on people who have pain disorders, too.  I hurt all over.  I gained all my weight back, plus a couple of spare pounds, and the other problems are under control with meds.
