I just started Zoloft 50 mg and after about 5 days i was feeling good, but am starting to go down again, so i called my doc and told him it was the time to raise it to 100(like he said was going to be necessary).....also it makes me tired, so i told him i wanted to take it at night.

his advice was to switch from 50 to 100 mg in one day, as well as switch from taking the medication in the morning instead of at night time....so basically i took 50 mg this morning and now am supposed to take 100 mg tonight....then start on 100 mg for however long at night time...

...does this abrupt switch sound like the right thing to do?.....anyone have any problems with taking Zoloft at night(because it makes me really tired so it seems like a good idea for me)? Also does anyone else have any advice on what happened when they upped their dosage?

Any responses are greatly appreciated!....Thanks! smile.gif

Hey tman,

When I was ramping up on Zoloft, I got a "Beginner's Kit" which started out at 12.5mg, then 25mg, then 50mg, then 100mg. The jump from 50mg to 100mg seems right.

My concern is the timing of the switch. Definitely follow your doctors orders, but I would double check that you should take a 50mg in the morning, then a 100mg that same night. You might want to ask if you should take a 50mg in the morning, a 50mg that night, then the following night start taking 100mg.

To be honest, I didn't have any side effects until I went from 50mg to 100mg. Most of those were minor, like a bit of a headache. I did have a few days of stomach upset, though. I also noticed a slight increase in anxiety...I don't know if that was a direct side effect of the Zoloft, or a side effect of the side effects!

As for taking it at night...sounds good to me! If it's making you tired and your dr. agrees, then go for it!! I had the opposite effect; if I took it in the evening, I'd be up all night! Everyone responds to ADs differently, though.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I know that when I went up to 100mg the Dr. has me take 50 in the AM and 50 in the PM. Maybe that's what's going on. the SE's were kinda bad for me and my stomach. LOL So he told me to split it. Then about a month later he had me take 100 at one time.
