Hi there!

I'm currently on Lexapro - 10 mg and Ive been taking it for 4 months now. I'm not happy with how it works, though my mood improved a little. But I'm beginning to think that this dose is not enough and my psychiatrist does basically what I want. She tells me the facts and then asks me what I want to do: switching, changing the dose, whatever. If I hadn't had previous results (and much better) with another antidepressant (namely Paxil) I wouldn't have these concerns now. But I know an antidepressant can do much more. That' s why I need your advice. Should I be upped to another dosage, would it help?

thank you for reading and maybe replying
P.s. I'm so grateful that I found this site! Helping me a lot!

You can definitely go to a higher dose if this is not working for you. What I'm wondering is if Paxil worked for you before, why didn't you go back to that when you needed medication again? It seems like that would be the obvious thing to do if it was much better than Lexapro.

Well you know best what your body is feeling. If you don't feel the dosage you are on is enough, then maybe it is time to try a little more? The Paxil was working why did you switch? This site is great isnt it? I am glad you found it and its helping you like it helps me!

Thank you both for replying. It seems that you are saying the same thing so I know now what to do.

The second time I tried Paxil it didn't work at all, and then I had some horrible withdrawal symptoms so that when my pdoc suggested Lex, I was more than happy.

hugs

I think you should definitely talk to your doctor about upping the dose. Even the longer range is 6-8 weeks before you should notice some improvement... 4 months is a lot longer than that. I've only been on cipralex/lexapro for 6 weeks, but still haven't felt an improvement- I was on 10mg for 5 days before I went up to 20mg, and then at the 4 week mark went up to 30mg and have been on that for 2 weeks. Good luck!

20 mg was the right dose for me. I am a little concerned that your doc lets you dictate your care. On one hand, you know what you are feeling better than the doc does, but the doc is supposed to have the expertise and knowledge.

good luck

A good doctor will let the patient dictate the care. It's the patient's body and the patient tries the medications--the patient knows what is best.

I just started Lexapro a week ago today and feel no better. Increasing your dose may or may not help. You may need to get a second opinion just in case.
