Hi guys,

After a couple of years (maybe even ALOT longer) of feelings of worthlessness I decided to speak to my doctor about Society Anxiety Disorder. I started taking my tablets (Esipram 10 mg) exactly 3 weeks ago. Today I hit a low. After comming home from school I was tired, drained and absolutely unmotivated to start my homework. I know some of you may not see this as much of an issue but I do. Depression is taking over my life, I'm in year 12 and all I ask myself (especially these last couple of days) is "what the f*** does this have to happen to me, what the f*** did i do to deserve this". I feel like I'm in a cupboard and my thoughts are feelings are trapped. I feel that if I speak to someone (my mates) that it isn't going to change sh** and I'm just going to be seen as the poor little kid that can't even go out to a party and try and chat up a lady unless i've got half a slab of grog into me. Alot of times I have to many questions or thoughts that I just need someone (a doctor) that I can speak to for as long as I need to because I feel that no one (except me and a doctor) know what these feelings are and how they effect human beings .Can anyone give me some sort of guidence with the issue?

welcomeani.gif I hear you! I felt as you did for many years about needing to talk. I eventually registered with a psychologist who listened - venting my anger left from childhood helped a great deal, it cleared my brain enabling me to move on, to see things in the now and not dwell on what I couldn't alter.

Year 12 is how old? From this I assume you are in the UK? Sometimes after the meds begin to work we hit a low; in my case it's when I take on too many commitments because I feel good enough to say 'yes' at the time; then panic or feel too tired which causes me to worry about letting people down. Sometimes I don't eat properly so my meds can't work properly or I forget to take them properly rolleyes.gif the 'set-backs' are often more of a problem than the depression was intiailly!

Do you have a counselling system in school? Maybe you should make an appt with your prescribing doctor for an up-date on your symptoms.

I'm 17 years of age, from Australia, Melbourne. Yes we do have a counselling system at school but I've had my fair share of differences with teachers and I don't think I could complete counselling at my school. I feel like if I do see the counseller - that the teachers have gotten the better of me if they find out I go, it's hard to explain. Is there such a thing as public counselling?

Hi Anonymous

Its good that you are on meds. That is a good start. I agree with Lizzy on the counseling, it will help you to have someone to talk to about all the things you can't talk about with everyone else and can also help to learn coping tactics for your Social Anxiety. I am not from Australia, but I did work in Melbourne for 6 months and I know there are centres that offer free counseling, if you are afraid to ask your school counselor. Also it is standard worldwide that counselors can not break your confidentiality, you normally sign an agreement with them, unless you are in great danger of harming yourself, so even the school counselors should not break your confientiality.

Thanks for the advice Trace. I think I'll just sleep on it and see how I feel in the next few days.
