i've been on 30 mg cymbalta for almost 4 months now. and i haven't noticed any weight gain...if this medicine were to make me gain weight, would it have already happened? like would i be noticing something by now? i mean i don't feel like i'm gaining weight...but i just get worried that maybe i really am gaining weight but am not realizing it. i'm so satisfied with my body now and the last thing in the world i want is to gain weight. i guess i would notice it by the way my clothes fit and what not. is cymbalta even associated with weight gain? i completely forgot to ask my psychiatrist about this, but he never mentioned anything in the first place.

I haven't had any weight gain, either. My doctor said it shouldn't cause weight gain. I actually lost some. I never have any kind of an appetite anymore, so I eat a lot less than I used to. It does make me constipated and feel really bloated, so even though I have lost weight, I still feel like I've gained because of the bloated feeling.

Hi,
I have been on Cymbalta for about 3 months now, am on 80mgs which seems to be helping my depression. It has, however, caused weight gain! I've been careful to consider whether I am eating more - I am not. :( What a bummer! Could be as much as 15 lbs! If it were just a couple I would just make do because it has been helping me - but this is jus too much.

I hope you are able to find a better solution for your problems Jennifer. Weight gain is bad for your health--no medication should worsen your health.

Think over the past 4 years ive taken Cymbalta, i must of gained about two stone, because of the sudden weight gain i developed a gall stone.

Ive lost a stone and a half and now im just plain sustaining my weight, my doctor advised to stop taking the tablets hence my being here due to the hellish withdrawl symptoms.

I went to my family doc a few weeks ago to get some blood work done. I asked him to do a liver panel as well as I was having some pain in that area. Well, the good news was the liver test came back ok. The bad news is I have gained over 20 pounds since going on Cymbalta in October. My cholesterol went through the roof as well, and I'm eating good and not eating a lot. Certainly not as much as I did before the depression/anxiety issues started last year. My family doc is suggesting that I stop the Cymbalta, as I haven't had symptoms since before Christmas, and made lifestyle/job changes to eliminate the root cause of the stress. But he left it up to the p-doc. I see him (and my cardiologist) in 2 weeks so we'll see what happens. In the mean time I joined a gym and go religiously every day after work. I haven't lost weight yet (actually gained some) but I do feel a lot better.

Cymbalta is supposedly "weight neutral" but I think this just goes to show how everybody responds differently. I'm also on Cymbalta, but simultaneously on Wellbutrin, and the Wellbutrin has helped me lose weight. I put on SOO much weight, on Effexor, which is in the same class of meds as Cymbalta.

... but I just want to say, OnlyZ, that over the years, the depression has eaten away at me so much, that I'm more concerned about treating my depression, than about health risks. I didn't feel this way when I was younger, but I'm now 46 and if I am shortening my lifespan because of the long-term effects of meds that work for my depression, then so be it. I'd rather have a shorter, happier life, than "physical health" which I can't enjoy because I am so miserable.

It's just my opinion and the place I am at now. I felt just like you do, when I was younger. Perhaps it's a sign of my level of desperation with so many recurrences...

Ive been going to the gym since last month 3 times a week, i eat a healthy low fat diet and im on Xenical which are pills that "remove" the fat you intake. Ive been on this diet and pills since December and were now monitoring what my intake is. Basically ive gone up and down a few pounds since the stone loss but im just sustaining. Its so frustrating to me and given my overall history of depression and Cymbalta my doctor cant put me on any other weight loss pills.

As Moonlightress said, everyone is indeed different but if you are concerned, i would advise monitoring your weight, wether by yourself or with your doctor. Ive just gone about this a little too late i guess.
