I guess it really isn't that important, I'm just wondering what constitutes a mood swing. Does it have to be an erratic, drastic change in mood, from one extreme to the other? Throughout the day I go from "ok", able to ignore my depression & anxiety long enough to function, maybe even crack a smile; to I-just-want-to-be-left-alone-to-die depressed. It may not be a extreme change in mood, but it's enough for some people to notice. "You seemed ok an hour ago." - But for me ok is still dying inside, I'm just able to not show it on the outside. Should this be discussed with my doc, or is it just a norm for depression?

((((wanderer)))) welcome to DF!! it is so good to meet you!! i think anything that is worrysome or bothers you should definitely be reported to a doc... i tend to be the same way... ok in the am and it gets worse at night to the point where i can't cope... or sometimes it can be within hours as you are describing... i would definitely call the doc...
best wishes

Those are definitely mood swings. It doesn't have to be anything extreme or drastic or incredibly erratic. Just the fact that you notice a change and those around you notice a change in your mood constitutes a mood swing. And if it is happening several times a day, every day or several days in a row like that it definitely needs to be mentioned to your doctor.

The whole idea of "mood swings" is so subjective to begin with, I don't believe there's a clear or absolute answer as to what they're all about. I do believe everybody gets them, it's just that some mood swings are more extreme than others.
