today i had an appointment with my psychiatrist and i had no idea that he was going to discharge me. he said hes pleased with my progress and is suggesting that i continue taking my medication for a year or maybe 2, depends on how things go.

im feeling a bit anxious at the moment because im scared that i might fall ill again - these things can happen anytime, anywhere. of course i still have those odd down days, i just hope they dont get too intense.

i still see my psychologist on a monthly basis, i used to see her once a week but decided to see how things would go if i coped on my own for a while, which is going fairly well at the moment.

does anyone else feel anxious when their psychiatrist decides to discharge you??

Hi Cruz1287,

I havne't had this experience, but I just wanted to say that I think this is a really positive step and I'm really glad that your Psychiatrist thinks you are have made such good progress.

You will still have your psychologist and I am sure that if things get intense again, there could be the possibility of seeing the Psychiatrist again? I think it is very natural to feel anxious when we move to a new step.

I hope someone with this experience can offer you some more insight. hugs.gif

Take care, Florry

Hi cruz,

I'm just wondering who prescribes your medication? Since, if your psychiatrist is recommending you continue taking it, yet at the same time, he is discharging you, obviously someone else must be prescribing the medication?

In my own experience , it's my psychiatrist who prescribes my medication, but I don't really have much of a relationship with him at all. By that I mean, that I don't talk to him about my feelings. I do that with a therapist. My appointments with my psychiatrist are always short and they focus specifically on how the medication is working for me. If I ever stopped taking medication, I would stop seeing my psychiatrist. So I guess I was curious because it sounds like you are not going to keep seeing your psychiatrist, but you are continuing medication?

It's good that the relationship with your psychologist isn't ending. Hopefully, if you continue taking your medication and having sessions with your psychologist, things will continue to go well for you. It's great that, overall, you are doing better. And it's great that you still have your support system in place (meds and therapy) for as long as you need it.

Wishing you all the best (((((((cruz))))))

Take care.

Joanna

i had the same relationship with my psychiatrist, i would talk about my feelings briefly and then he would say what the reason was. instead i talk to my psychologist about absolutely everything that is troubling me.

its so good to talk to someone because its like a release valve for me. i feel like the pressure has gone down a lot.
