The treatment of mental disorders is a personal trial and error process. Just because one person has severe headaches when they use Zoloft doesn't necessarily mean that if you take Zoloft YOU will have headaches too. Conversely, the fact that Paxil didn't work at all for one member does not mean that Paxil cannot be your success story.
Your wonder drug or combination of, will be discovered totally independent of what may or may not work for another individual. If one drug was the answer for everyone, then there would be only one drug on the market. We all react differently to different medications and varying dosages.
It may satisfy your curiosity to learn about other people's experiences, BUT this should never be the deciding factor as to what will work best for you. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.

I have been extremely manic the past few months ..and I haven't visited here as I probably should have...I have been spinning in an emotional cul-de-sac... I have a manager from hell...she has been stressing me out with her unreasonable 'REQUESTS" they are really demands...my doctor pulled me out last week under FMLA...even though I didn't have the time, my job is protected under the family medical leave act. Today, he decided to prescribe 25mg of seroquel to take at night.. i am scared to take this med because everyone I know that takes it has put on tons of weight..however, my doctor says that he hasn't seen any of his other patients gain weight especially only taking 25 mg.... anybody have any advice on this?

SEROQUEL ROCKS !!!!!

I take it (100MG) and love it.

It enhances the quality and deepness of my sleep at night, in conjunction with the Trazodone( desyrel) (100MG) that helps me to relax and get to the sleeping state much better.... and Zoloft (sertaline) (100MG) as well.

It takes me awhile to get up and get going in the morning, (three alarm clocks ringing straight for 20 minutes) but I LOVE IT !!!!

As far as weight goes, I have not heard of any problems... I am slender and have not added any pounds.... however those who lead inactive lifestyles may tend to add pounds, as the Seroquel makes sleeping something that you may enjoy doing... this is just out of my own experience.

I only take 25mg if I have to get up and get going EARLY in the morning, (which happens often) but that is just me.

I can do without the Zoloft with no problems, (that is just me, and it would be DANGEROUS for most people to do) but without the Seroquel and the Trazodone I would really be **REALLY*** messed up....

I take 300 mg Seroquel at bedtime, have for almost a year. I have even managed to lose weight on it (about 30 pounds) with really diligent attention to what I eat and exercising for at least 30 minutes every day. I doubt that you would gain much weight on 25 mg, especially if you are careful. I too find the mornings tough - at least the getting out of bed part. But once I am up and going I am fine. But I find that Seroquel has given me the best sleep I have had in years.

Hi SoulSurvivor,

I, too, find Seroquil to be a great sleep aid, I really only take it occasionally when I need to get a good nights sleep. It is a good sleep though. And I use the 25 mg. dose as well and I haven't noticed any weight gain. I am pretty active and exercise regularly, swim in the morning, power walk in the evening. However, I would have to agree, at 25 mg., you aren't likely to gain weight. Hope it works as well for you...

Peace and Love.... wayne

Sabbat Shalom

I, too, take 25-50mg seroquel at night for sleep, and it´s working very well for me. I´ve been on it about 2 weeks. I think I have lost a bit weight during that time -I also take prozac, which makes me loose weight I think. seroquel in such a low dose is quite harmless in my opinion. my pdoc also explained that doses 500-600mg you can talk about bad side effects, but such a tiny dose should not make any problems with gaining weight.

good luck!

Ok, well just to be controversial, i have been taking seroquel for about a month at 100mg's/day. 50mg's at night and 50mg's in the morning. Before that i was taking another anti-psychotic for a few months (promazine).

Since starting anti-psychotics i have put on 4 kg's. Not a huge worry, because i was rather too slim, but i hope i don't put on any more! They have made me ravenously hungry....i've got the permanent munchies, i eat until my stomach hurts and i still feel hungry. When i stopped taking them for a few days recently that went away, so i know it's the anti-psychotics.

I pretty sure it comes down to the dose, and when you take it....if you use it to help you sleep then just take it at night and in low doses shouldn't be a problem..if you have to take doses in the day then just be aware of how much you're eating, because this is a well reported side effect.

Oh and i take prozac too, so i don't think that has a bearing.....

Thanks for all your replies..
well, I took my 25mg of seroquel last night .. this first experience was nothing to make me jump up and down about.. in fact,
I woke up several times during the night and when I got up this morning, I felt very tired, irritable and edgy with somewhat of a hang over
I had to have a cup of coffee AND a Xanax! coffeebreak.gif upside.gif

each med has a time when your body gets accustomed to it. I think it took me a week or so to get more accustomed with seroquel. at first I felt drugged in the mornings. Also, some nights it helped with sleep, some nights it didn´t. I´m doing better now on it, usually sleeping ok, and although it´s hard to wake up in the morning, I´m fine after I get myself moving.

hugs,

well, I decided I'm not going to get accustomed to it... especially with the iffyness about weight gain.. if it has the ability to slow my metabolism, it's not worth it for me
i can sleep quite well with tylenol pm's

thanks for everyones replies

ok i take 400mg at night and it puts me to sleep within an hr and pretty solidly too. I then take another 100mg during the day in 50mg lots as it makes me want to go to sleep on 100mg so 2 hrs apart i take he 50mgs . So my total is 500mg a day + 200mg lamictal, and 20mg prozac and if i still cant sleep zopiclone.

i havent gained weight at all. I still get manic and depressed some times but not as deep as i used to. I wouldnt be without my drugs now, i want more lamictal is it evens me out the most i have found
