I know that in the past when I was taking Paxil (Seroxat/Paroxetine) that my doc prescribed me a low dose of Seroquel to take with it.

Apaprently, even though Seroquel is an anti-psychotic in higher doses, there is some evidence it assists other ADs to work.

Just wondered if anyone has heard of Effexor (which I now take) being supplemented with Seroquel in this way?

my pdoc added small dose of seroquel (25mg-50mg) to prozac for better sleep and also AD effects (seroquel is a drug for bipolar depression).

I´ve taken seroquel 25mg for 2 nights now. at first night I slept a bit better, at 2nd night not. but I hope this works. I was very tired, so pdoc said that if I get better sleep with seroquel I will not be so tired anymore.

hugs,
soleil

I was taking Seroquel along with Efexor and it was fine, it managed to help keep my mood stable and helped reduce some of the bad anger I was getting.

Hi Psychocandy,
I don't know about your particular AD, but from what I've read about Seroquel, it should not be taken with an AD because of bad interactions. Also, if you are taking meds for other health problems, such as heart conditions, high blood pressure, steroids for anything, and antibiotics, you really should talk about this with those prescibing doctors along with your Pdoc.
Hope this helps. Good luck! And let us know what the outcome is.

No - not if your doc has prescribed it.....

There is research that shows that a low dose can augment ADs...

Hi insaneklown

I'm currently on 225mg Efexor and 100mg Seroquel. Have been for about two weeks.

The Seroquel has no negative effects on the AD for me at all. In fact, it seems to have stabilized my mood somewhat.

It has the added bonus of almost completely alleviating my anxiety, which is great.

The only drawback in the grogginess in the mornings for me.

I wouldn't stop taking the Seroquel, unless you can persuade your doctor to prescribe something in its place.

Cheers

Dan

Each one of us reacts differently, and we'd suggest you contact your own doctor, as was already said. Just to correct: Efexor works mainly on Norepinephrine and Serotonin, only weakly on Dopamine. I've known quite number of people who took a low dose of an anti-psychotic with their AD. Anti-psychotics used to be classified, pharmacologically, in a category called Major Tranquillizers, so it made sense to me that a low dose would work for sleep/anxiety. I don't know Seroquel, so I can't comment on it, in combo with Efexor.

thank you for the responses. the seroquel helps with sleep sooo much and it has helped put me ona regular sleeping schedule. i just worry alot about taking it for some reason. i do believe ill stay on it for now because it has been a tremendous help with sleep. the effexor has also done wonders for my everyday life. i like to clean and things of that nature now whereas without it i never felt like cleaning or doing normal things. im also a recovering xanax and alcohol addict and the effexor has just been amazing. im off to rehab on thursday for 28 days. im realy nervous about it but its something i have to do

I am currently taking 225 mg eff and doc just put me on seroquel. (b-4 seroquel, he tried Lamectal, but had to stop because of severe rash and itching) every 2 days the seroqu is increased by 25 mg. I am up to 75mg --so far I really don't feel any difference. In past 5 yrs have been on probably 10-12 different cocktails of various names and strengths.
Haven't found one yet that has made significant diff. also have psychologist and 35-40 self help and religious books that I have and am still reading. we'll see how it goes. GOOD LUCK TO YOU
