Hi all,
I would like to know if any of you have OCD but manage to take care of the symptoms without SSRI's? What other types of medication works for you?

Thanks,
B.

Welcome to our room. I am aware of what triggers my OCD tendancies i.e. usually stress. If I find myself washing hands more often that I should I make a list: ticking off those times it is apporpiate to wash hands and if I find I'm going to the sink more often, I take a walk round the garden, drive to the shops ...... distraction therapy works usually for me.

Well there are tricylic anti-depressants. I got some very nasty effects from SSRI's. I think anti-anxiety pills like Valium can also be prescribed short-term.

edit: changed long-term to short-term lol

I took Valium as necessary during the 1990s until itmade me feel ill rolleyes.gif that scared me: a it meant I was without chemical support when necessary and b I didn't know why I suddenly felt weird when taking it!

Now I have a beta-blocka I don't have the anxiety surges as often.
