How can I do this? Last night I went to bed at 10:15 and the last time I looked at the clock it was 2:30 a.m. and I had to be up at 6 for work. Not sure what was keeping me up but the citalopram I started taking Jan 17th has not bothered my sleeping previous to last night. I am going to see what happens tonight and if I'm up until the wee hours again I think I am going to switch to taking my AD in the A.M. How is this done? TIA

Hi Softtail Honey,

You might want to ring your dr and ask about switching times, just to be on the safe side, but I've been taking citalopram for several months now and have had to switch around the times I take it in order to find out what was best for me. My dr initially said to take it at night, that it would help me sleep, but I found this was not the case and felt it was making my insomnia worse. I take it first thing in the morning now and that seems to work best for me. Some people also split theirs, taking half in the morning and half at bedtime. Everyone reacts differently of course tho. Hope you're able to get some sleep tonight and will soon find a time you can stick with to take your med that will be the most helpful for you. Take care, Belle

I have tried 2 methods that work fine. I can either skip my bedtime dose and then take it first thing in the morning, or I move the time I take it back 2-3 hours each day for a few days, until I'm taking it in the morning. I have also split my dosage between morning and evening to even things out during the startup phase. As Belle said, you should let your doctor know of your insomnia, and your plans to change the time of dosage.
