It's kind of blistery... raised bumps... like a regular rash... While any rash with Lamictal (lamotrigine) needs to be closely watched, it's the combination of an itching rash and fever with any anticonvulsant that needs immediate attention from a doctor, any doctor. Lamictal (lamotrigine) + itching rash + fever = trip to the emergency room with all of your meds in their original bottles. Otherwise it's just call your regular doctor for the soonest appointment possible. I had my rash for OVER two weeks, and then saw my doctor... He took me off the meds, but I was fine... It's a slow to "kill" rash... I say that with tongue in cheek... Sure you should be concerned, but don't freak out... just call your doctor, and DON"T GO OFF THE MEDS until you see your doctor... that can be dangerous... take all your meds with you to the doctor and tell him/her if you've used any new lotions, etc.... it could be anything...

Don't panic.  :;):

I still think mine was from malnutrition instead of the Lamictal... but I had to be sure... so I had to go off the Lamictal... I was on 450 mg.

good luck

I forgot to say... I had it on my face and down my throat... The rash looks like tiny red P**kly bumps. They fade into a pink rash which looks somewhat like poison ivy, no pus whatsoever. after awhile mine was nearly hard to see... just raised bumps... hard and scaly... like an allergic reaction... all over my face and throat... millions of them (slight exaggeration) :;):

Angel, I never even had a fever and they took me off Lamictal... but I have to be almost dying for my body to break into a fever... Even when my appendix nearly ruptured, I never had a fever, so my body doesn't respond with fever, as some don't... remember that.  See your doctor anyway... it could be as simple as a reaction to jewelry... or it could be something else... either way... better safe than sorry, right?  See your doctor... fever or NO fever! I go see the Pdoc tomorrow. The rash persists and is slowly creeping..but isn't as tender now.
I also started another med recently that has nothing to do with BP so..maybe that is it. I will ask him, though..:)

Well, I saw the Pdoc and he doesn't think that this is a Lamictal rash. I am very relieved because i like the drug..but he really wasn't sure what it was. Said a leather watch band can do it all of a sudden ..maybe that is it.

((((((Angel)))))),
Maybe it's a heat rash?  It's near 100 degrees here... a leather strap can just "look" at you and give you a heat rash! :;):

Keep an eye on it, if you get a sore throat, go back to the doctor!  Right away! hearts.gif

Today was the 1st day I was bumped up to 100 mg. - On my way to work my arms started feeling tingly and warm - and I looked and there's all of these tiny red splotches all over them and I freaked!  Then, I told myself to calm down because pdoc said sometimes it will go away, but if it doesn't to call.  It has started going away but I thought oh  :censored: here we go again - have to switch meds.  It's not itchy and raised bumps though.

Play it safe - call your doc, let him/her decide if it needs to be looked at and what needs to be done.
Good luck! Let us know...

Hi Cat,
The rash ended up getting a little worse. It looked like little white and red blisters. They where on my face ,neck and chest.(Just a few )At first I just thought I was breaking out. and then l I saw a couple of hives on my face and neck. The Dr. told me to discontinue. Guess thats it for me. veryangry.gif Im just so frustrated.

Hey cat,
This was my first attempt at with mood stablizers.Iv been looking up my other options. So far not liking what I read.I am so sensitive to all medications. My P-doc told this Med is one of the most tolerable, so I dont know where to go from here.My Dr. will be back on Monday.Ill talk to her.but right now Im pretty gun shy.Not sure I want to jump on the medication roller coaster.I havent heard of Abify.Ill check it out. Oh,Thanks for you pm.

I forgot to add something important. My P-doc told me before I started Lamictal to have benadryl in the house.Im sure glad I did! Who knows how much worse my reaction could of been had I not taken it as soon as I saw the hives.2 days later the rash and hives are just about gone.
