Okay in short this is getting REALLY old. For the last week I've been suicidal, like clawing at the walls and desperate for some help, any help really. I'm on the verge of tears constantly and I've just plain had enough of all this, every thing I try is basicly turning back on me. So WTF is wrong with the UK when it comes to mental health? The most help I can find is ringing a helpline that will listen to you but can't do anything more.. Welp yep that's useful isn't it. Great for Bipolar people who seem to have zero support in this place.

Yesterday I rang my counseller (erm mental health worker) to ask if she could setup anything emergency wise, just as an attempt to do.. something. She said she couldn't and I should see a doctor. So I set up an appointment with a doctor and passed out since I had been up two days and was basicly exhausted (been up an hour now and don't feel far off it with the depression though). She rang while I was asleep so I guess someone canceled an appointment and she could of fit me in, but I was unconcious and can't talk on the phone then :(

So any way I went to the doctor, sat in a busy waiting room (I have social phobias, this is not fun while stable, suicidally depressed.. well yea, I stared at the floor and hated every moment of it). So I went to see him and explained my history (I was put on Prozac 2 months ago, took it for 5 days then I became suicidal and spent two weeks comming down, but have since been having suicidal urges which I never had pre-prozac), pointed out I'm probabky Bipolar (I have all the symptons and people around me clearly notice it long before I did) and got basicly the following reply.

"You're not Bipolar, Bipolar people can't list their symptons like you can, the best I can do for you is to give you some mild anti depressants"

So I went "no thank you, I don't want to try those after my exprience with Prozac and the fact that I am Bipolar even if you won't believe it". I then asked to be forwarded to a trained professional in the area and left with him saying "A letter will be sent to you" basicly.. Which leaves me feeling discarded and basicly told to **** off.. It's frustrating as hell, he focused on the thing which put me in this position not my position which requires urgent attention if I plan to see next week.

So I look into other help, support.. whatever.. and there is basicly none.. I can find more useful support for farmers mental health than I can for mental health support in the Bipolar/suicide area (hell even just suicide..). It's just ridiclous and I'm getting more and more frustrated with each passing day.. I can't take much more and yet every step of the way some a**Ho** wants to get in the way of me getting the help I need.

I'm about to go ring the local hospital to ask where I turn next, but I thought I should make a topic here (BTW 5 post minimum to start a topic is not fun when you're like this and you only have 2 posts, considering how difficult it is to get motivation while depressed wouldn't removing this or lowering it be a lot more useful to all?). Hopefully some people here will have some advice since I'm running out of bridges here and tired of seeing them burnt just for kicks over and over.

I have some knowledge regarding NHS. I know if you live in a small town, the mental health services are limited and the p and t docs are overwhelmed by the amount of people they care for.
As far as finding some help, you may want to call the Samaritans or the hospital to see if there are any support groups in your area that you may be able to attend. If you are having major suicidal thoughts, go to the hospital. Hopefully they can give you emergency treatment and set you up with a pdoc. Being untreated with BP is one of the worse things that happen to us. I hope you can get help soon.

Yea, I don't want permant meds, just a stabliser to get my feet back on the ground. :/

I rang my local health team, they gave me some mental health phone numbers but I'm getting basicly zero help from any where, just being told to wait and wait and wait.. **** is this bugging me. Maybe that's why people kill themselves, because all you get is d**ked around when you're already at breaking point.

I have a number I can ring at 6 o clock, I'll try that, but right now I'm basicly sick of everything. Sick to the point I'm tempted to write to the local news papers and go "hey, did you know the NHS tells suicidal people to just wait?", see what happens there.

As far as contacting the local paper, it may be a good idea. It will wake some people up that there is a crisis in the mental health area of the NHS system. Be that squeaky wheel with everyone, you will get help if you constantly "bug" people.

Go to the hospital if you are suicidal. There are supposed to help people on an emrgency basis when people come in with these thoughts.

Stabilizers do help control our symptoms. You could call and make another appointment with your GP. Ask for a stabilizer to help you in the interem until you can see a pdoc. A good stabilizer that I am on is Lamictal. There are others on the market. You may want to check out the Medications topic on the Portal.
