Hey peeps,

This morning i felt reasonably ok, i felt like the meds were starting to kick in and improving my mood slightly. I have periods when i feel happy to be alive and i want to accomplish so many things in life and then maybe about 10mins later i feel depressed about myself again, i start thinking about death which isn't very pleasant. Is this normal for my mood swings to go up and down like this?? unsure.gif

thanks

I was wondering the same thing a little bit ago, cruz. I'm not having as good as a day as I have been the past couple weeks. I know its unnerving. You feel better than you have in a while and then all of a sudden you come crashing again. I'm on day 23 of 10mg of lexapro. I think these up ands down days are to be expected in the beginning and I'm sure there are going to be down days even when the meds kick in. But I can deal with an occasional bad day here and there as long as I dont go back to the way I was before I started.

I mean surely I cant already be tolerant to 10mg 23 days in can I?

I'm the same way. I've been on Lexapro for about 8 weeks now. Started at 10mg for about 5 weeks now up to 15mg. I have definitely felt better, but I have the mood swings too. Although, I seem to be able to deal better. The only other complaint I have is insomnia. Well, not insomnia per say, rather, a restless sleep where I feel like I never fall into a deep, rejuventaing sleep. Seems like I am only just dosing off through out the night and I wake up a lot. Hopefully, that goes away soon!

I hear ya on the insomnia. It's a royal PIA. I have an appointment with my pdoc on Tuesday. I'm going to talk to him about some trazodone, remeron, seroquel.......something. I have Ambien, but I refuse to take it every night.

For those of you who are having trouble sleeping on Lexapro, what time of day are you taking your medication?

Perhaps taking it in the morning would help?

I take mine pretty early, usually between 6-7AM. I keep clinging to the hope that it will get better since I havent even been on it a month yet, but I dont know.

Cruz, I was getting really drowsy after I took mine in the morning at first, but it has since went away. Maybe you should give another shot at taking it in the morning.

Moods swings are hard...but there's not much you can do about them in the short term except adjust your meds i guess...

just keep in mind that they're just chemicals in your brain and that those "bad thoughts" are not rational. so next time you feel depressed, you can be like "dammit, are my serotonin levels getting low again? now i'm going to start thinking things that are NOT true. and DWELL over the bad s*** while IGNORING all the good s***"

remember that there's always at least some "good s***" even if it takes you a while to think of. the world is an unpredictable place, but experience has shown that there is always more "good s***" to come in the future.

(hope this helps..i'm new here)

I like your positive outlook, esc! As you probably noticed we try to censor bad language here to maintain PG standards. The gist of what you say is so true though!
