I’ve known this friend for about 4 years and still going. She mentioned before that she has ADD. Since we go to different a university/college now, we phone each other as communication. However, she never seems to recognize me anymore by my voice. Everytime I call her cell, she says “who is this?” Assuming that she doesn’t have caller ID, does ADD play a role in this behaviour? btw: we are still good friends so it’s not because we aren’t close anymore.

Doubtful Dohta. It sounds like my problem; hearing. I have trouble hearing in low ranges and cell phones can give me fits.

Thanks

I was just wondering if the "shorter attention span" part of ADD would play a role in that.

could be that she's distracted when she answers the phone... could be that she doesn't "hear" well on the cell phone that she has.... could be a "reactive answer" everytime she answers the phone and she doesn't look at caller ID, or she doesn't have your number plugged into her phone and your name doesn't pop up... you know? could be that your phone is making you sound differently.. or have you had a cold lately and your voice sounds different? who knows? I know that I have a few friends who's voices certainly sound different on the phone than they do irl.

but some people just say "who's this" first before thinking or reasoning out for themselves. could be that.

Its probably just a phone issue, I know I am VERY hard of hearing due to years of shooting without ear protection and constantly have to have things repeated or said straight on face to face so i can read lips. She may have a mid range frequency hearing loss, causing electronically generated toned, ie:your voice, to become distorted. I doubt the ADD would cause it....
