I would encourage to visit www.dbsalliance.org. That is for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. Under "Find Support" you can click on finding a chapter near you. You can put your zip code and a max number of miles that you would travel in. Under California I did see an LA group. These meetings are free.

also.. google "NAMI" (north american alliance on mental illness). they most likely have a LA chapter and can direct you towards support groups and free services. i know they also work with dbs alliance too.

You can also call your local hospital for support groups or any ongoing program they may have. Many newspapers have an area listing local support groups. You may want to check both of these out.

For the record NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness. I also highly recommend NAMI. I attend some of their Nami C.A.R.E. groups which are free support groups. The C.A.R.E. stands for Consumers Advocating for Recovery through Empwerment. They also offer groups for families. They can also tell you about other non-NAMI support groups that meet. Often, they can steer you towards groups for specific illnesses. PM if you want more info.

BTW, there is a NAMI Los Angeles chapter that has a site at http/://www.namiurbanla.org. The phone number is (323) 294-7814.
